High Availability and Reliability
Microsoft has introduced two new concepts with the latest release of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007: Local Continuous Replications (LCS) and Cluster Continuous Replication (CLR). LCS allows for a local, real-time copy of the Exchange Server database to be maintained on another partition of server disk in the event the Microsoft Exchange Information Store database becomes corrupted to should the location of the Information Store databases fail. By having a continuous copy of the database, administrators can quickly and easily retrieve the Information Store, literally within a few minutes. CLR allows for a remote storage location of the Information Store on another server or another location anywhere in the nation, which provides for fail-over activation should the original Exchange Server become unavailable. This allows email to be available 24/7 regardless of the condition of the original Exchange Server.
New Server Roles and Functions
Microsoft has introduce a new infrastructure to Microsoft Exchange messaging—the concept of “Server Roles”. Server roles allow administrators and Exchange architects to divide server services between two or more Exchange Servers which provides for additional redundancy, divides server services between servers, and allows for a more flexible messaging plan. For example, The Exchange Edge Transport Server allows administrators to safeguard their internal messaging platform by providing anti-spam, phishing, and anti-virus protection at the perimeter of the messaging network, preventing these attacks and threats before they enter the organization.
Advanced Management Console
The advancements in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 extend beyond the concept of server roles and move straight into the new administration console, which provides advanced wizards that ease the over-all burden of managing your Exchange Organization. Administrators familiar with Microsoft Wizards can quickly and easily manage their users, resources, conference rooms without having to setup special processes as needed with earlier versions of Exchange. Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Web Access (OWA)
Microsoft has redesigned the way Outlook users interact with their Exchange Server. In the past, new users to the Exchange Server and Outlook had to spend a considerable amount of time configuring their Outlook client to communicate with their Exchange Server. Oftentimes, the desire to synchronize in real time over the Internet using RPC over HTTPS was painstakingly difficult to achieve and administrate. Today, Outlook 2007 automatically configures itself to the Exchange Server, requiring nothing more than an email address and a password. Once the user provides this information, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 automatically enters the remaining information necessary for the end-user to begin using Outlook in real-time. Users of other operating systems, such as Apple Macintosh, UNIX, or Linux can now enjoy the collaboration features of Exchange and Outlook by accessing the web-based Outlook client, Outlook Web Access (OWA). Outlook Web Access has improved dramatically ocer the years and closely imitates the Outlook application client.

Microsoft Consulting Server 2007 does not natively support earlier Outlook clients; by design, it supports Outlook 2007 and later. This is due to the new design structure of Consulting 2007 in preparation for phasing out the older Public Folder design.
Earlier Outlook clients depend on the following Public Folders for functionality:
1) Offline address book distribution
2) Free/busy lookups
3) Organizational form library
4) Outlook Security settings
As part of the continuing support for Public Folders and earlier Outlook clients, Public Folders can be manually created and utilized.
Outlook 2000 and earlier clients are no longer be supported by Microsoft.
Public Folders will not be supported after 2016.
CAUSE
During the initial installation of Consulting Server 2007, the administrator answered “No” when asked if he had any client computers running Outlook 2003 or Entourage clients in the organization.
RESOLUTION
Public Folders can be created from within the Microsoft Consulting 2007 Management Console.
Step 1: Create a Public Folder Database
For Outlook 2003 and earlier, a public folder database is required for Offline Address Book (OAB) distribution.
To create a Public Folder Database:
· Go to Database Management.
· If there is no public folder database, select a storage group where you want to create the public folder database.
· In the Action Pane, select the "New Public Folder Database" link
· Complete the New Public Folder Database wizard.
Step 2: Configure the Default Offline Address Book
The default offline address book (OAB) must be configured for public folder distribution and for version 3 and version 4 of OAB generation (you can choose only version 4 if all of your client computers are running Outlook 2003 SP2 or later).
To Configure the Default Offline Address Book:
· Go to Offline Address Book Management.
· Select "Default Offline Address Book".
· In the Action Pane, click the "Properties" link.
· Click the "Distribution" tab.
· Select the "Enable Public Folder Distribution" check box.
· Select the boxes under "Client Support" that correspond to the Outlook versions in your organization.

Setting and managing the size of tracking and audit logs can prevent using unnecessary disk space on your Consulting 2007 Server. On occasion, there may be a need to increase or decrease these settings in accordance to your organizations requirements.
Setting the size of these files can be accomplished using the Microsoft Consulting Management Power Shell.
For Directory Space Allocated to Message Tracking
· MessageTrackingLogMaxDirectorySize
For Managed Folder Audit Logs
· LogDirectorySizeLimitForManagedFolders
Each setting you apply is considered to be separate of each other—in other words, if you set tracking limits to 500MB and folder audit to 500MB—the total disk space usage is 1GB per database; if you have three databases you total disk requirements would be three gigabytes.
Size Limitations You Can Assign
You can assign any amount of space to your tracking and audit logs limited only to the amount of free disk space available using any unit of measurement. For example:
· Unlimited=Unlimited
· B=Bytes
· KB=Kilobytes
· MB=Megabytes
· GB=Gigabytes
· TB=Terabytes
MessageTrackingLogMaxDirectorySize Parameter
To use this parameter, open the Microsoft Consulting 2007 Management Power Shell and type the following command:
Set-TransportServer Computer_Name –MessageTrackingLogMaxDirectorySize DirectorySize
For example, to set the directory size to 500MB, the command would be:
Set-TransportServer Consulting ServerName –MessageTrackingLogMaxDirectorySize 500MB
LogDirectorySizeLimitForManagedFolders Parameter
To use this parameter, open the Microsoft Consulting 2007 Management Power Shell and type the following command:
Set-MailboxServer –LogDirectorySizeLimitForManagedFolders DirectorySize
For example, to set the managed folder size to 500MB, the command would be:
